Niskayuna Students to perform Earth Day Project in Glenville
On Earth Day, April 22nd, Niskayuna High School Environmental Sciences students, under the direction of Master Teacher Paul Scott, will be planting 60 “wildlife shrubs” coming from the DEC School Seedlings Program in the Alplaus Kill Natural Area (between the bridges on Glenridge Road). They are planting Highbush Cranberry, Silky Dogwood, and Arbor Vitae (20 of each plant).
The students are excited about planting the shrubs along the Alplaus Kill and will stay within 50 feet of the stream bank.
This planting will aid in the preservation of the Alplaus Kill streambank and will also help maintain water quality in the stream.
Mr. Scott’s classes have been coming to the Alplaus Kill for many years to perform water quality analysis, and this project contributes to the health of the riparian environment.
The Town of Glenville is very appreciative of the students’ and the school’s contribution.
